About Our School

From the Principal
9/1/2010

Wow! It's hard to believe school has already begun. The lazy days of sumer are behind us now, and here we are once again, off and running in yet another new school year. As with every year, perhaps this year more than ever, the beginning of the year is hectic and fast. Working hard to get buildings, classrooms, curriculum, etc...ready is not something I can say we typically look forward to; however we do look forward to the arrival of students each year. I can say with confidence that our faculty and staff love students, and anticipate their arrival each year. Although there are many frustrations that arrive with them, and they can sometimes test the patience of even a saint, children are loved and appreciated at District 37.

As most of you are well aware, we begin this year in the midst of a state-wide budget crunch that continues to impact schools across the state. I am very pleased to say that District 37 has been able to maintain most of our student programs; and with the help of new organizations such as the Anna Indians Athletic Booster Club, many programs that were cut are quickly returning. I would like to express our thanks to all of our parents who are working hard for the newly formed Booster Club. They are doing an amazing job, and our student athletes will most certainly benefit from their efforts. We would also like to thank our local businesses and community members who have given so generously to the booster fund.

We are very pleased to inform you that student enrollment is increased by over 50 students this year. Total district enrollment is now over 720 students. Of course, with larger numbers come some challenges, such as class sizes, supplies and space - classroom space, where to park, where to play, etc...However, in spite of the challenges, these numbers are very promising for our future, and district administration and staff will continue to look to the future, to see how to best meet these challenges, and to continue to provide a sound education for the children of our district.

We look forward to meeting and working with you throughout the year. Children are a gift to us all. Working together, we can insure a bright future for them all. Should you have questions, or need assistance throughout the year, please call or schedule an appointment to visit with your child's teacher or an administrator. Have a great year.

Sincerely

Mark Laster
