Letter from the Principal

1/26/2012

What a year it's been so far.  Who can believe its almost February already?  It's been an exciting year so far, with many changes and challenges - some good, some not so good.  But I can honestly say it's still a joy to work with the students, faculty, staff, and parents of District 37.  Looking forward, there are many more changes to come in the state of Illinois -new state standards, a new teacher/administrator evaluation system, changes in funding, and more.  Again, I look forward to meeting and over-coming these challenges alongside outstanding educators and parents such as yourselves.

As we cross the mid-way point of the school year, it becomes even more important to be diligent in our monitoring of student behavior and academics.  The tendency, for many students, is to begin to "slack off" after returning from Christmas break.  As the adults in their lives, it is our job to try and prevent this.  As parents, continue to check homework, assignments, notes, etc... on a nightly basis, to be sure you know how your child is performing.  At the risk of sounding rude, don't take their word for it that they are doing ok.  Always check for yourself.  When in doubt, contact your child's teacher(s).  We are in this together, and want to do all we can to help your child succeed.  Working together we will help insure that all District 37 students reach their full potential.

Sincerely

Mark Laster
